Design
1.       Characteristics: Describe the style and feeling you want your logo to convey: bring in visual examples from any source/discipline to reinforce your descriptions.
2.      Colour: Select a palette of 2-4 colours as your primary colours for the brand and provide the swatches specifically in RGB, CMYK, and One other space and indicate what the colour value is (i.e. R220, G 150 B 120) in. Explain your colour choices.
3.      Logo: Design the logo for the Cell Gallery. These should be first hand sketched, then created in Illustrator. You will have 50 variations on your logo and choose the final from this group. Explain at least 10 reasons why your logo is the right choice.
4.      Identity (Logo + Other Elements): Develop a layout/design system for your logo to be used with other media: video, print, web, site graphics, merchandise, packaging etc…

Characteristics:
I want my logo to look like a professional and simple logo that won’t distract the viewer of the gallery. The logo should be simple enough not to distract people but catchy enough to create a connection between the gallery and the branding.

Colours:
I chose these colours because they are the colours of the tarps being used on site in the Cell Gallery. The green is an added colour into a different variation of the logo I have created. Also tarps are usually found in these three colours.

Variations:

Final:

I think this logo is good for the Cell Gallery because it uses the two colors being used on-site in the gallery itself. It is made up of triangles and that matches the theme of the gallery. The Logo is very simple and can be easily recognized. The simplified version just has the triangles and “CG” but people will recognize it as the original logo informs the audience about what it stands for.
Logo + Other Elements:
Black and White:
 Plaque:

The logo is very simple and doesn’t need to be altered much to fit the needs of print, video and packaging.

Research

1.       Rationale: Why do you think that your chosen company needs a rebrand? Explain at least 5 reasons
2.      Research at least 3 other galleries and look at their branding. Describe how each brand looks/feels/operates. How is the brand used on site, online, and in collateral materials?
3.      Brand Personality: Describe your brand for the Cell Gallery as if it were a person. What is he/she like?
4.      Pitch: Sell your ideas for your brand as it pertains to recognition, audience communication, prestige and long term value.

Rationale:

It has no real branding and could use a simple geometric shaped branding consisting of triangular shapes.

Other galleries:

Art Gallery of Ontario
This brand’s logo isn’t very well developed, I think this because the on site architecture of the building is more of a sleek and modern design while the logo isn’t anything similar to that.

Winnipeg Art Gallery
The branding for WAG has a modern look using simplicity and minimalism throughout there logo, website and the architecture of the building. The feel is a very minimal focus on the design but more on the work within the gallery.

Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver
This brand is very simple and minimal just like the WAG. It mainly uses simple geometric shapes and very few graphics around the website. The site also uses the idea of minimalism and simple shapes throughout the architecture. This design lets the audience focus on the pieces within the gallery and website.

Brand Personality:

My branding is a simple and professional looking design. It uses three colors plus black. I chose green, blue and white because typical tarps are often found in these colors so it matches the on-site theme. I used triangles as the only shape because of the gallery theme and also sticking with the simplicity and minimalism branding. The de-saturated colors add a contemporary and sophisticated look, as vivid and vibrant colors are childish and isn’t the best thing for an art gallery. I think the minimalism branding would be successful because every gallery needs a nice looking brand without distracting the viewers from the content of the gallery itself.

Pitch:

I think The Cell Gallery could use the branding that I have created because it uses colors that can be seen on tarps and since tarps are what the gallery consists of, it goes well with the on-site production. The triangles in the logos are corresponding with the triangles used on site. The audience will automatically make the connection between the simple logo and the cell gallery itself.
